It is the gentler, quieter sister of the full moon ritual, and for many women it becomes the more treasured of the two.
What the new moon represents
The new moon is the blank page. Across traditions it represents fresh starts, planted seeds and quiet potential. Where the full moon asks what are you releasing, the new moon asks something braver: what are you inviting in?
The ritual, step by step
Choose a quiet evening within a day or two of the new moon. Light your candle and sit for a moment with nothing at all, letting the day settle out of your shoulders.
Then write down one to three intentions for the month ahead. The secret is to keep them few and honest. Not a list of resolutions, but a description of how you want to feel and what you are moving toward. I will protect my mornings. I will say the honest thing kindly. I will take one real step toward the idea I keep shelving.
Hold your crystal while you read your intentions back to yourself, slowly, as if they were already true. Keep the paper somewhere you will see it, a journal, a bedside drawer, and blow out your candle.
